What is instrument diagnostics?

Instrument diagnostics involves a thorough check of the technical condition of the instrument. It is usually performed after the instrument is delivered in order to identify possible improvements and to select the best setup configuration that will be most suitable for the given instrument.

As part of the diagnostics, I check the condition of:

  • Hardware

  • Wood

  • Finish / lacquer

  • Neck geometry

  • Neck angle

  • Truss rod adjustment range

  • Frets condition

  • Electronics condition

What does the "Fret Levelling" service include?

Fret levelling involves removing the neck (for bolt-on neck guitars) and protecting the fingerboard/body. For set‑neck guitars, it also includes removing the hardware from the body.

The fret levelling process is carried out in several stages:

  1. Leveling with a block/file

  2. Restoring the round shape (fret crowning)

  3. Dressing – smoothing the frets after filing

  4. Polishing to a mirror finish

After the fret work, the instrument undergoes a FULL SETUP, which includes:

  • Maintenance

  • String replacement

  • Tuning machine adjustment

  • Neck relief adjustment

  • String action adjustment

  • Intonation adjustment

What is a full instrument setup, and what does it include?

A full instrument setup allows you to maximize your instrument's potential, ensuring proper tone, tuning, and playing comfort. This service includes:

  • Instrument diagnostics

  • Tuning machine adjustment

  • Optional lubrication of tuning mechanisms

  • Guitar cleaning

  • Fingerboard cleaning and maintenance

  • Fret polishing

  • String replacement

  • Bridge adjustment (for tremolo/movable bridges)

  • Neck relief adjustment

  • String action adjustment

  • Intonation adjustment

  • Tightening of loose hardware

I don't want a full service with diagnostics and maintenance — is it possible to perform a small setup?

Of course, you can opt for a small setup. This adjustment includes setting the string action, neck relief, and intonation. However, it's important to note that skipping diagnostics may affect the final sound of the instrument. Without a thorough check of the technical condition, such as the neck and frets, we cannot guarantee a perfect setup.

We recommend a full setup with diagnostics because it allows us to better understand the instrument and fully tailor it to your expectations. However, if you prefer selected services, such as adjusting the string action or setting the intonation, you can choose those individually.

We want to emphasize that our goal is to provide the highest quality and satisfaction with our services. That's why we encourage opting for a full setup so we can carefully examine the instrument and ensure optimal sound and playability.

Why is the price of a guitar setup with a Floyd Rose bridge higher than for a guitar with a fixed bridge?

The price of a guitar setup with a Floyd Rose bridge is higher than that of a guitar with a fixed bridge for several reasons. Setting up a guitar with a Floyd Rose bridge requires additional work and is more time-consuming. It involves precise string replacement, tuning, intonation adjustment, and bridge adjustment. The entire process is more complex and takes longer than for guitars with a fixed bridge, which is reflected in the higher service price.

The Floyd Rose bridge is an advanced system that allows for pitch manipulation and vibrato effects. This means it requires special attention and precision during setup to ensure tuning stability and proper bridge functionality.

Additionally, the design of the Floyd Rose bridge allows for locking, which is necessary when changing strings. This process also requires extra time and care.

For these reasons, the price of a Floyd Rose bridge setup is higher to account for the additional effort, time, and precision needed to ensure optimal performance and functionality of the bridge.

However, despite the higher price, we guarantee that our Floyd Rose bridge setup will be carried out with the utmost care and professionalism to provide you with excellent sound and reliable performance of your instrument.

What is spot fret leveling?

Spot fret leveling is a method recommended when there is no need to perform a full leveling of all the frets. It is carried out in the following situations:

  • New guitars that only require minor adjustments on the frets.

  • Used guitars whose frets are not heavily worn and only need small repairs.

During spot fret leveling, we focus only on the frets that require attention, even if it's just a single fret. This method allows us to address problematic areas and bring them up to the desired standard.

However, it's important to note that if the frets are uneven across the entire length of the neck, we recommend performing a full fret leveling. A full leveling ensures that all frets are even and eliminates any irregularities along the entire fretboard, which can improve playability and the overall sound quality of the instrument.

Our services include both spot fret leveling and full fret leveling, depending on the needs and condition of your instrument.

What is full fret leveling?

Full fret leveling involves leveling all the frets along the entire length of the neck. This service is recommended in cases of more significant fret issues. During a full fret leveling, all imperfections are filed down, and the frets are made perfectly even.

It's worth noting that full fret leveling is generally more expensive than spot fret leveling because it requires more work and time.

The price of fret leveling can also be higher for guitars with a set neck. This is due to the more difficult access to the last frets, which are harder to work on because of the shape of the guitar body. Filing these positions requires more effort and precision.

What are the stages of fret leveling?

  • Identifying high spots on the frets and other issues or defects.

  • Marking areas that require correction.

  • Spot or full leveling (in the case of full leveling, a spot leveling is also performed, but less precisely).

  • Fret crowning – restoring the original shape of the frets.

  • Fret dressing – smoothing the frets and restoring their original condition after filing and sanding.

  • Fret polishing – deep polishing of the frets to achieve a mirror-like finish.

What determines the price of electronics repair?

The price of electronics repair depends on several factors, which are assessed individually for each instrument. To determine the exact cost of a comprehensive electronics repair, a diagnostic of the instrument is necessary.

Our electronics repair services include a variety of tasks, such as repairing potentiometers, switches, jacks, and more. The cost of individual repair services is listed in our price list, which allows you to easily estimate the approximate price for such single repairs.

However, for more complex repairs or specific part requirements, it is necessary to assess the condition of the instrument's electronics and determine the repair cost individually. This ensures an accurate estimate that takes into account the specific needs of your instrument.

How long will the service take?

The completion time of a service depends on the scope of work and the number of guitars in the queue. We strive to maintain smooth workflow to ensure that repairs and setups do not take too long. Depending on the type of work and workshop workload, the service time may vary.

You can generally expect your instrument to be ready within up to 10 business days.

In some cases, however, a guitar may be ready for pickup in just 3–5 business days.

We make every effort to keep turnaround times as short as possible, regardless of the scope of work. We understand how important it is for you to have your instrument back quickly, so we do everything we can to ensure efficient and timely service.

Do we repair wood and finish damage?

We're sorry, but we do not provide services for repairing wood or finish damage. Our services focus mainly on guitar and bass maintenance and setups.

However, if your guitar has minor scratches or dull spots, we are happy to offer a guitar polishing service. Polishing helps restore the shine and appearance of the finish, improving the overall aesthetics of the instrument.

Additionally, we offer a detailing service, which includes thorough cleaning, maintenance, and refreshing of the guitar. This is an excellent way to restore the freshness and shine of your instrument.

What determines the service prices?

The prices listed in our price list include tax and cover all costs associated with running our business. Our prices are influenced by the current market situation, inflation, and the costs of providing high-quality services. When setting prices, we also considered the competition to ensure that our clients receive fair and competitive rates.

Please note that price negotiation is not possible. We strive to keep our prices at a competitive level while maintaining the high quality of service and customer care. However, for our regular clients, we offer discount options. If you are a returning customer, you will be able to benefit from a discount on your next service.
